The date and location for Brownfields 2025 has not yet been selected. If you are interested in bringing the next Brownfields Conference to your city, alert your local convention center or tourism bureau to our soon-to-be-released RFP on icma.org/requests-for-proposals.

Brownfields 2023 took place from August 8-11, 2023, featuring the Environmental Justice Caucus on August 7th.

The 2023 National Brownfields Training Conference is in Detroit! It will take place at Huntington Place located at 1 Washington Blvd, Detroit MI 48226.

An abundance of discounted sleeping rooms will be available in downtown Detroit with easy accessibility to Huntington Place. Housing, through the official housing agency is available at brownfields2023.org/housing/.

Yes, complimentary wireless internet will be available in all public areas and meeting space at Huntington Place.

Yes, coat check/bag storage will be available.

A Brownfields Ask Me! Desk will be available during all registration hours at Huntington Place.

Per diem meal offerings will be available for purchase at Huntington Place.

We will use the app Whova for Brownfields 2023. Search for “National Brownfields Training Conference” in Whova and enter the code “Brownfields2023” to join!

The recommended dress for Brownfields 2023 is business casual.

Brownfields 2023 attendees may request a list of attendees. This list excludes attendees that opt out of their name being shared, and it does not include contact information.

Slides will be available as long as possible, but in the event we are no longer able to continue hosting them publicly, you may contact us to request a slide deck.

The Brownfields Call for Ideas is now closed.

Yes, CEUs for planning (AICP CM) and continuing legal education (CLE) for certain states are offered. We will also assist attendees with self-reporting their credits for other disciplines.

In order to offset the cost of the conference, there is a registration fee based on your stakeholder type.

No, the registration fee does not include meals. Per-diem meal options will be available for purchase by attendees in Huntington Place. There are also many surrounding food establishments.

Registrants only need to add Brownfields University courses, Mobile Workshops, and the Community Reception to their registration in order to attend them. All panels, roundtables, town halls, topic talks, open houses, and other events at Brownfields 2023 are open to all registrants unless otherwise specified.

Yes, you may assign your registration to a different person, but ICMA must be informed of the change at least 1 month prior to the event.

Exhibitors and Exhibit Hall

Exhibitors receive three (3) full conference registrations per 10×10 booth.  Once an exhibiting company exceeds its allotted number of complimentary registrations, the exhibitor may elect to purchase additional exhibitor registrations.

Yes, all our exhibitors are considered conference attendees and are encouraged to join the educational programming, including registering for any Mobile Workshops and the Community Reception.

Accessibility, Parking and Transportation

The closest airport to the convention center is Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW).

Rideshare, Taxi and Luxury Sedans have separate pick-up locations at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW).

RIDESHARE. Use Rideshare service apps to book a ride to and from Detroit Metro Airport. Passengers can only meet their driver within the designated Rideshare area that is located inside the Big Blue Deck, Level 1 or McNamara Parking Garage, Level 4.

McNamara Terminal: Once across the Skybridge, continue to the bank of elevators located on Level 6 of the Ground Transportation Center. Take the elevator down to Level 4 to locate the Rideshare staging area.

Evans Terminal: Once across the Skybridge, continue through the sliding glass doors. Take the elevator or escalator on the right, down to Level 1 to locate the Rideshare staging area.

TAXI AND SEDAN. Request transportation from the airport to other points in the region, day or night. Handicap accessible vehicles are available upon request. To make a reservation, contact Metro Cars or Metro Cab or visit the Metro Cars / Metro Cab kiosks located in the Ground Transportation Centers at each terminal.

From McNamara Terminal. Taxi and luxury sedan services dispatch in the middle of the Ground Transportation Center, located on Level 4. Upon arrival in Detroit, and once all baggage has been claimed, follow signs to Ground Transportation to catch a ride.

From Evans Terminal. Taxi and luxury sedan services dispatch from the upper level of the Ground Transportation Center. Upon arrival in Detroit, and once all baggage has been claimed, follow signs to Ground Transportation on Level 4 to catch a ride

There are 2,246 parking spaces attached to Huntington Place. The 1,250 at the Roof Deck are an elevator away from our designated meeting space in the facility. In addition, there are 406 in the Huntington Place Congress Street Garage and 640 in the Washington Blvd Garage.

Huntington Place Rooftop Parking. From front of Huntington Place, go north to Congress St. Turn left, stay in right lane to circular ramp between Second and Third Streets. From the Lodge M-10 south, take the Howard St. exit to Fort St. Left on Fort one block and turn right on Third St. Proceed to circular ramp to roof parking, Parking Information.

2023 Parking Rates for Washington Boulevard Garage, Congress Street Garage, and Roof Deck Parking are as follows:

  • Daily Rate: $20
  • Group Parking Arrangement (GPA) (Single Use): $22.00
  • Group Parking Arrangement (GPA) (In/Out Privileges): $30.00

From North: Southbound on the Lodge M-10, exit Larned St. (on left); right on Washington Bvd. Southbound on I-75 take I-375 to Jefferson Ave. went to Washington Blvd.
From South: Northbound on I-75, exit Lodge M-10 to Larned St. (on left); right on Washington Blvd
From East: Westbound on I-94 to I-75 south; take I-375 to Jefferson Ave. west to Washington Blvd.
From West: Eastbound on I-96 or I-94 take the Lodge M-10 South; exit Larned St. (on left); right onto Washington Blvd
From Canada: Tunnel crossing: left on Jefferson Ave. west to Washington Blvd.

Ambassador Bridge crossing: take 1-75 northbound to the Lodge MI-10 south; exit Larned St. (left side); right on Washington Blvd.

Yes, gluten free, vegan, or other types of per diem lunches will be available. Huntington Place will create per diem offerings that will include, gluten free, vegan and any others that attendees may submit on their registration form.

Complimentary non-motorized wheel chairs are available for use on first come first serve basis at Huntington Place. Please visit their Information desk located in the main concourse/lobby.

The Detroit People Mover, an elevated and automated light-rail system, can help you get around downtown quickly, easily and safely. The 2.9-mile looped system, which can be completed in approximately 15 minutes, has 13 stations, with automatic stops at key downtown locations including Huntington Place, GM Renaissance Center and Greektown.

7:00 a.m.-midnight weekdays, with an extension to 12 a.m. on Friday. 10 a.m.-12 a.m.
Saturday. 10 a.m.- 8 p.m. Sunday.
Cost: one-way fare is just $0.75. Price is subject to change.
